The programme begins at 6:00pm with a performance by Pipe Major Jim Lucas at the West Piazza in front of St Paulís Church, Covent Garden.

The Secretary of State will be welcomed at 6:15pm by Sir Thomas Macpherson of Biallid, President of the Corporation.

At 6:25pm the Secretary of State will be piped to the Corporationís newly refurbished headquarters just around the corner at 37 King Street where she will cut a ribbon and take a call on Scotsline.

The remainder of the public programme in the Piazza will comprise an evening of Scottish music and country dancing by the MacLennan Scottish Group (with audience participation) to 8:00pm.

The Royal Scottish Corporation is a registered charity that provides a helping hand to Scots in need, hardship or distress in London. It provides moral support and guidance and points people in the right direction.

The Corporation traces its origins to the 1603 Union of the Crowns of England and Scotland under King James.

In 2002 it spent £1.3 million helping 1,200 London Scots with everything from educational and training grants to sheltered housing for the elderly and disabled.

There are an estimated 300,000 first- and second-generation Scots in London.
